Paul Heckingbottom, “Hecky, he’s one of our own”

Paul Heckingbottom, "He's one of our own". "Hecky" as he is affectionally known by Barnsley fans and Barnsley people alike is very unique in the fact that he is a fan managing his home town club. An astute and intelligent football man who has worked miracles within his time as head coach of Barnsley F.C. Hecky is a living legend at the club having lead Barnsley to two Wembley triumphs one of which resulted in promotion back to the Championship.  Against ...

Belgrave Road

Belgrave Road, an iconic walk for reds fans especially when you come down the hill and see the famous West Stand with Barnsley FC in view. With this painting I wanted to try and capture the culture of Barnsley and the heritage of the fans walking to the game, showcasing the mining   community that formed the bedrock of Barnsley as a place and the never say die hardworking spirit of the people and its town....

Norman Hunters Super Reds

This painting depicts what many reds fans believe to be one of the greatest Barnsley teams ever to grace Oakwell. Securing promotion to the old Division 2 as runners up to Rotherham in 1980/81 season. I wanted to try and get the Old John Smiths stand in there which is now the East Stand and depict the players waving to the crowd. Players such as Mick McCarthy and Ronnie Glavin are fondly remembered and are considered legends by the Oakwell ...

Adam Hammill’s Wonder Strike V Millwall, 3-1 Returning to the Championship

Posted by
In my opinion one the greatest Barnsley sides in my lifetime. A superb 3-1 victory against Millwall at Wembley Stadium in the league One play off final secured our return to the Championship. Adam Hammill's wonderful solo effort being the pick of the bunch. You would have to go a long way to find a better individual goal in a play off final at Wembley Stadium. I had the pleasure of meeting Adam and he is super ambassador for Barnsley FC and ...

The Formation of Barnsley St Peters

Legend has it that Reverend Tiverton Preedy walked out of the local rugby club because they had arranged to play a match on Good Friday. Over hearing some young gentleman speaking about the possibility of forming a football club in front of an Inn, he declared “we will build a soccer team that the Rugbyites will not crush!”. My painting below documents this meeting of Tiverton Preedy with the young gents agreeing to the formation of Barnsley St Peters.  There is a ...

To The Premiership, here we come!!

Its exactly 20 years this season since Danny Wilsons legendary side got to the promised land of the Premiership. What a team we had and it really was just like watching Brazil, with the free flowing attacking football that was played at the time. My painting is of Clint Marcelle scoring the second goal against Bradford in 1997, which confirmed our promotion to the premiership. Some superb Barnsley FC fans,  are currently making a film about Barnsley's incredible journey to ...

Barnsley’s 1912 F.A. Cup Win

Still the only team to win the FA Cup in Yorkshire, My painting of Barnsley F.C.'s 1912 FA Cup winning superstars was created using acrylic paint and gold leaf on canvas. The gold leaf on the shirts being a metaphor of a golden era. Even though our FA Cup win was many years ago, there is a great sense of pride knowing we have won the competition. Not many clubs have won the FA Cup so to do that in ...

Hi Everybody, I hope you are well, I had initially tried to keep a diary day by day of my time at Oakwell, but things got quite busy with the paintings and with my love of the football club, I was so engrossed with the completion of the paintings and promoting them on social media, that my blog or news section of my website has become a bit neglected as of late. I will up date it now painting by ...
