Today saw me return to fortress Oakwell to try and recreate Clint Marcelle’s magical goal against Bradford City which eventually took us to the premiership, the top division in English football for the first time in our history. The painting is far from complete at this stage, but I’m going to share the image as it currently stands. I am aiming to try and capture the atmosphere, the excitement and the electricity of the occasion. Oakwell was rocking back in 1997 when Clint scored Barnsley’s second goal. I try to tell a story through my paintings and with this particular painting, I have exaggerated the characteristics of the individuals involved because I wanted to demonstrate the character, passion and personality of the day. Oakwell has al these qualities in abundance at full capacity. We really do have fantastic fans, win or loose providing the players have given everything the crowd still sings and supports the team. Its brilliant. On this particular day and season, it was just like watching Brazil.
