“It was an honour to create two paintings for one of the biggest football clubs in the world. The traditions of Manchester United are very special and it’s been a highlight of my career to work with them.”
Ben created two original works of Art for the Manchester United Foundation in association with UNICEF. One painting showcases Wayne Rooney’s incredible overhead kick against Manchester City.
Referencing Picasso and Cubism’s avant-garde art movement, Ben wanted to get a real sense of everything being around you in the way he portrayed Rooney’s extraordinary goal.
To express this concept, he painted the goal as if you’re seeing it from three or four different angles.
The other was a live painting in front of a black tie audience at an official Manchester United dinner, with the first team and manager Sir Alex Ferguson in attendance.
It celebrates Man Utd club legends Peter Schmeichel, Dennis Law and Dennis Irwin. The painting of the trio of Utd legends was a tribute to the club’s great players of the past and was his first ever live painting.
